Refugee Week 2021: ”Our Journey” Photo Exhibition

In celebration of Refugee Week, one of our past students, Justine, was selected by SydWest Multicultural Services to have her portrait taken.

This photo exhibition, in partnership with Blacktown City Libraries, shines a spotlight on local Blacktown City residents and professionals from a refugee background who have made a significant contribution to their new home, whether personally, professionally or in the community.

Justine arrived in 2004 from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Upon arrival, she worked hard to learn English at Macquarie Community College. Since then, she has also gained 2 Diplomas and a Bachelor of Social Science. Justine is a mother to 6 children.

Justine works in a State Member's Office where she organises various community programs. She is passionate about her community in Blacktown and organises the African Christmas Party at Doonside Community Centre each year.

Justine is also establishing a multicultural women's group where she seeks to bring women together in a safe environment to talk about issues such as social security and current affairs.

Read more about Justine's story and how she used education to revolutionise her life direction.

The exhibition will displayed at the Blacktown, Mt Druitt and Stanhope Garden libraries respectively over the next 3 weeks. Congratulations to everyone who was selected to participate in the Photo Exhibition!
