Collaboration and Commitment - Covid-19 Relief Grant
Working together with Government
Macquarie Community College has been working together with Government to continue delivering vital education and training services in our communities.
We gratefully acknowledge a one-off Covid-19 Relief grant made available by the NSW State Government to a number of Adult and Community Education providers in these extraordinary times.
The $76,357 grant for MCC was announced by letter from the NSW Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education the Hon Dr Geoff Lee, member for Parramatta.
The Minister noted in his letter that “Adult and Community (ACE) colleges deliver vital services and support to some of our most vulnerable citizens and I acknowledge the valuable contribution that the sector makes to our local communities”.
Developing remote learning opportunities
This grant will help Macquarie Community College to speed up the development of alternate methods of remote student learning through video and online learning in their homes.
This has never been more important than at this time when students and teachers cannot physically attend the College campuses. There is no doubt the grant will be well used. The College is already well under way with our new range of remote learning options for Term 2 that commenced in late April, with more than 500 students enrolled in the 75 classes already running and 20 upcoming classes.
This is one of a number of measures from State Government in the form of specific one-off grants, plus adaptations to existing program funding. It is very heartening to know that support is there for the College to sustain its operations. In this way our talented staff can stay focussed on creating and delivering inclusive and affordable training to our students. There has never been a more important time than now with current public health and social distancing orders in place to work together to support students that face barriers and disadvantages so that they too can participate in quality vocational training and adult education.
The Covid-19 relief grant in particular has had broad support across the parliament, including local members reaching out across portfolios, geographies and parties while managing their own responsibilities.
Thank you to our community
We are very appreciative of the active representations and support from our local members for this most recent initiative. Notably this includes two exceptionally busy local members that have taken time to work on our behalf and also to write to us. Thank you to our Premier and Member for Willoughby, Gladys Berejiklian and the Member for Epping and Treasurer, the Hon Dominic Perrottet.
As with all of our sources of funding we will use it wisely.
